South Carolina Tabbed No. 1 in ESPN’s Way-Too-Early Top 25

Fresh off another dominant season, the South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball have already claimed the top spot in ESPN’s way-too-early Top 25 rankings for next season, signaling continued confidence in the program’s championship trajectory.

Head coach Dawn Staley has once again reloaded rather than rebuilt. With a strong mix of returning talent and impactful additions from both recruiting and the transfer portal, South Carolina looks poised to remain the team to beat in women’s college basketball. The Gamecocks’ depth, defensive intensity, and proven culture under Staley were key factors in ESPN’s decision.

Despite offseason roster changes, South Carolina’s ability to consistently develop elite players and maintain a winning identity keeps them ahead of other contenders like UConn Huskies women’s basketball and USC Trojans women’s basketball.

It may be early, but expectations in Columbia are already sky-high. For the Gamecocks, being ranked No. 1 isn’t just recognition—it’s the standard.
