South Carolina women’s basketball continues to keep a close eye on the health and development

South Carolina women’s basketball continues to keep a close eye on the health and development of its incoming recruiting class as they prepare to arrive in Columbia. Head coach Dawn Staley and her staff remain optimistic, even as a few prospects work through minor injury concerns.

One highly touted signee has been managing a lower-leg injury sustained during her final high school season, but sources indicate her recovery is progressing well. The expectation is that she will be cleared for non-contact workouts shortly after arriving on campus, with a full return targeted before the start of fall practices. Another incoming freshman has dealt with a nagging shoulder issue but is expected to be fully healthy by summer workouts.

Despite these setbacks, the Gamecocks’ staff has emphasized patience and long-term development. Strength and conditioning plans have already been customized for each player, ensuring a smooth transition into the college game while minimizing re-injury risks.

As for their plans upon arrival, the recruits will immediately integrate into South Carolina’s offseason program, focusing on strength training, film study, and skill development. Several are also expected to participate in summer classes, allowing them to acclimate both academically and athletically.

With a mix of elite talent and careful injury management, South Carolina’s incoming class is still projected to make an impact. If recovery timelines hold, the group could be fully available by the time the Gamecocks begin their preseason preparations—keeping expectations high for another championship-contending season.
