According to a report by HITC Sport, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town considered recruiting Michael Obafemi, the new kid at Plymouth Argyle, from Burnley.

Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday had been considering a move for the forward, but they will now need to explore elsewhere for offensive reinforcements before the deadline on Friday. He has signed a season-long loan agreement with Plymouth Argyle.

Obafemi, 24, played for the Lions in all competitions for the second part of the previous season, scoring two goals in 14 appearances. Though his future with the Clarets has been uncertain this summer, he has since returned to Turf Moor.

HITC Sport reports that Peterborough United, Derby County, and the Owls have all expressed interest in him. Wayne Rooney, the manager of the Pilgrims, stated on the team’s official website: “We are delighted that we were able to acquire Michael’s services.” He was very eager to join us at Argyle in the projects we are doing. He matches the type of play we want to use and fits the mold of a player I want on the team.

Obafemi might have been considered by Sheffield Wednesday as a way to increase their alternatives at the top of the pitch. The Owls have had a busy summer in terms of transfers as Danny Rohl works to add his unique touch to the team.

Regarding Huddersfield Town, luring the Republic of Ireland international to League One would have been a fantastic move, but it didn’t work out. Following their defeats to Birmingham City and Rotherham United in the previous season, the Terriers are aiming for an instant promotion under their new manager, Michael Duff.

Under Rooney, Plymouth Argyle will be hoping that Obafemi can get off to a quick start and regain their form. Their last game was a 1-1 draw at home against Hull City.

The Dublin-born player attended the Chelsea, Arsenal, Watford, and Leyton Orient academies before receiving an offer from Southampton in 2018.

Before departing for Swansea City, he spent five years on the Saints’ roster.

The attacker was traded to Burnley after scoring 15 goals in 52 games in all competitions for the Swans.

Obafemi will be hoping to play a lot of minutes for Plymouth Argyle, who play away to QPR this coming weekend.

Sheffield Wednesday will host Leeds United this evening, and Huddersfield Town will host Shrewsbury Town.
