The former England international, who joined from West Bromwich Albion this summer, had a chaotic first preseason at Middlewood Road. When he made his season debut at Grimsby Town on Tuesday in the League Cup victory, he strained his calf, as has been the case time and time again.

The midfielder may only miss Saturday’s match against Millwall due to the approaching international break, but boss Rohl expressed his sadness at the news.

It is really, really unfortunate for Nath, he said. “It was unfortunate after the game, and when I received the message, I was quite depressed about this circumstance. He will be out for a few weeks again. However, since this is football, sometimes things aren’t fair. For me, though, it’s about sticking together, supporting him, and we’ll succeed in making him stronger again.

He’s experiencing a minor issue with his calves. He felt something after the game, which is something I discovered after the game. I did not sub him because of the injury, and sometimes it is hard to grasp what goes on. This is football that we made the scan and obtained the outcome for.

“In his mind, he wants to help the team and show what he can do, but I told him this season will be his time, and we will do everything to make it happen.”

Akin Famewo, the defender, had his season debut as well, but escaped unharmed. He is a “question mark” at The New Den, where Dominic Iorfa might be needed.

In the meantime, Rohl claims that anyone expecting a hectic deadline day of signings at Hillsborough is fooling themselves.

INJURY BLOW: Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah

“We signed 11 players and to speak now about a busy day?” Rohl remarked. We’ll wait and see whether there’s a chance in the next 24 hours, but overall, we put a lot of effort into this transfer window, so is it reasonable to anticipate that we’ll add four more players on the last day? It’s not true to life.

“We made a lot of attempts to bring players in on the very last day in January. We search, and occasionally timing and opportunities play a role. It’s not always our choice alone.

Michael Smith is scheduled to practice on Friday, but Wrexham hasn’t reached the striker’s valuation as of Wednesday. They need to sign him by Friday at 11 p.m., or else they will have to wait until the new year.
