Tråkiga nyheter: 5 nyckelspelare lämnade IFK Goteborg just nu…

Swedish Allsvenskan giants IFK Goteborg have taken Sweden underage international of Nigerian descent, Kennedy Okpaleke on trial ahead of a possible move.

The 18-time Swedish champions have informed through their official website that Okpaleke is training with the club for the rest of the week.

Aged 16, Okpaleke will be aiming to impress the coaching staff of IFK Goteborg during the remaining training sessions this week.

Previously, he has taken part in tournaments with IFK Goteborg’s academy teams but will train with the senior squad until the end of this month.

He is currently on the books of Swedish Division 2 club Lindome GIF whom he joined ahead of the start of the 2024 season.

Okpaleke represented Sweden at U15 level before he was promoted to the U17 national team.

IFK Göteborg are expected to target new signings before the start of the 2025 campaign as several players left the club at the conclusion of the 2024 season.

If Okpaleke is offered a contract by the Angels, he will be hoping to emulate Suleiman Abdullahi, Peter Ijeh and Alhassan Yusuf, all of whom have made first-team appearances for IFK Göteborg in the past.

And IFK say they have an even better prospect in Malick Junior Yalcouye. The Malian midfielder, 18, recently joined from ASEC Mimosas.

Ola Larsson, technical director of IFK Gothenburg, told FotbollDirekt: “Now he has only been here for two or three weeks and in such a short time to be able to perform at such a high level, I think that is huge. I think he’s insanely interesting.

“It’s strange, really, if you imagine a player who can only speak French…then you can imagine that it should take time for him to adapt to the game, but he understands football language.

“If you then compare potential as said, he is thus 2.5 months older than Lucas Bergvall and is clearly better than him in the cup match. After all, Bergvall has more matches in the Allsvenskan. But I think Malick is clearly better than him.”
