The Sydney Swans mascot was caught in an astonishing “pitch invasion” just before the AFL championship siren.

On Sunday, the Sydney Swans overcame Geelong with an amazing comeback of 65 points. And with just one minute remaining, Tom Papley booted the game’s final goal to increase the lead to thirty points, sending the SCG crowd into a frenzy. However, one fan went a little too far.

‘Cyggy’ rushed out from behind the goals onto the turf, pumping his fists, eager to start the festivities. The AFL mascot was swiftly instructed to leave the field by security when he continued passed the goal square.

The mascot put his hands to his ears to listen to the enthusiastic audience before trotting back off the ground. When the video was posted to Reddit, it went viral extremely fast. Many people commented that, following the thrilling victory on Sunday afternoon, the Swans mascot represented every Sydney supporter.

After having a bye, the Swans started slowly and trailed 5.2 (32) to 0.3 (3) at the first interval. The third-place Cats were eager to get back into the win column following their shocking loss to the Tigers the previous week, and the Swans, who had won seven straight games going into the match, appeared to be ending their winning run.

However, the Swans began to cut into the lead and were only five points down at the half before winning the game handily. Coach John Longmire’s 200th victory came in front of 44,714 spectators at the SCG, and the seasoned leader claimed it demonstrated Sydney’s depth of skill.

Longmire remarked, “You can’t flirt when you’re playing well,” following their seventh consecutive triumph. We still need to improve on our starters a little bit. We were undoubtedly exposed.

“We seen what happens when you just slightly relieve the pressure against a strong squad in the first quarter. We aspire to be more than merely a talent-based organization. Our ability then manifests itself when we are exerting pressure and working hard. The opposite is not effective.”

Geelong coach Chris Scott is certain that his team can regain the form that propelled them to victory early in the season, even though the Cats suffered a difficult defeat at the hands of the Swans. The Cats lost a 35-point advantage on Sunday. However, Scott is certain that there’s no need to freak out. “We’re clearly disappointed with the result but going into our bye with 10 games to go, we feel pretty positive and optimistic about where we are in the season and the capacity for improvement that we have,” Scott stated. “It wasn’t like we didn’t have opportunities toward the end of the game. Overnight improvements are necessary for some of the areas where we fall short.”
