BREAKING NEWS:: Swans blame slow start, not McDonald miss for loss

Coach John Longmire of Sydney has laid the responsibility for his team’s one-point loss against Fremantle at the SCG on a slow start rather than Logan McDonald’s missed opportunity to win, or at least force a draw.

After the final siren on Saturday afternoon, McDonald had a set shot from just outside the 50-meter arc to seal a thrilling victory for the Swans.

However, the pivotal forward mishandled his kick, causing it to miss the mark entirely, and the Dockers managed to hold on to end the Swans’ winning run of ten games.

Although Longmire acknowledged that McDonald was “a bit disappointed,” he went on to say that he had not anticipated the 22-year-old to consider booting at least a behind with his game-winning last-second shot.

“I guess all we’re after is just to back your routine in and have a shot,” Longmire remarked.

It didn’t quite make it, but such things do happen. That was just one instance out of many that were undoubtedly more crucial to getting right and eliminating the need for luck.

There’s not much he can do about it when it occurs over a shot like that. That will teach him and all of us lessons, but that isn’t what I’m concentrating on.Final two minutes: With a late miss from Logan, Freo ends the Swans’ run.

The exciting last seconds of the round 16 match between Sydney and Fremantle

The Swans were behind at the first change for the fifth time in their last six games as the Dockers scored the first three goals of the game and added four more goals to the hosts’ two through a furious first term.

Although the Swans have won ten straight games by outscoring their opponents with rapid and heavy scoring, this time the ladder leaders ran out of time as the Dockers came back late and never gave up the advantage.

Regarding attempting to address the Swans’ sluggish starts, Longmire remarked, “We have looked at it closely, so it’s not as if I have to look at it any closer.”

“It’s a little bit of everything, but it’s amazing what happens when we go back to pretty basic footy and we get our pressure up.” Although it’s extremely easy, we need to get started a little earlier.

Early in the second term, Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson dominated the ruck, and onballers Caleb Serong, Andrew Brayshaw, and Matthew Johnson helped manage the clearances, giving the Dockers a 32-point lead.

The Dockers’ seasoned player Nat Fyfe, who went directly to Isaac Heeney from the first bounce and held him in check until the end of the game, helped control the Swans’ talented midfield.

Heeney finished with 20 touches, including an equal-game high eight clearances, despite only having six disposals before the main break.

“All ‘Fyfey’ wants is for us to win. Heeney is a bull in there and leads their clearances all year long, so we gave him the responsibility of keeping an eye on him, especially around stoppage, according to Dockers coach Justin Longmuir.

Fyfey offered himself for the position and performed admirably. Later in the game, when things were getting really wild, I felt he had some very fantastic moments where his age and experience really showed through.
