BREAKING NEWS: Southampton try £30m player-plus-cash deal to beat Leeds United to Joe Rodon transfer at Tottenham

Alan Nixon reports that Leeds United may lose out on re-signing Joe Rodon from Tottenham because Southampton is attempting to work out a player-plus-cash deal.

The Sun journalist said on Sunday, June 23, via his Patreon page that the Saints are in the lead to sign Rodon, 26, by putting up Carlos Alcaraz.

Given that Alcarez is reportedly valued around £30 million and Rodon is said to be worth roughly £10 million, Spurs would need to pay a “hefty chunk” of money in addition to Rodon in order to sign the former Juventus loanee.

Leeds, who are eager to re-sign the Wales international, is where Rodon spent the previous season on loan [football.london].

Rodon played for the Yorkshire giants last season, making 50 games across all competitions. He was excellent.

Regrettably, he was a member of the team that lost to Southampton in the Championship play-off final at Wembley in May and was unable to assist the club in getting back into the Premier League.

Despite Rodon’s obvious mastery of the Championship, the move to Tottenham proved to be too much for him.

He is clearly talented enough for the Premier League, and if you were him, you would want to sign with a team like the Saints so you could play regularly and showcase your skill.

It’s inevitable for Leeds supporters to acknowledge that a move back to Elland Road would be a negative, if not downhill, step for his career.

Even though Southampton would always be perceived as a step down from Tottenham, he would at least be playing frequently in the world’s greatest football league rather than sitting on the sidelines in North London.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are interested in signing this £12 million-rated striker in a “bargain” deal. He won the title.
