Sheffield Wednesday working on swoop for Premier League forward

According to The Star, Sheffield Wednesday is hoping to come to an agreement on a loan agreement for Mark O’Mahony.

Although Sheffield Wednesday had a successful summer transfer window, it appears there is still room for more business at Hillsborough as time runs out.

Danny Rohl has added ten new players, all but one of them are on a permanent basis. Ben Hamer, Max Lowe, Yan Valery, Nathaniel Chalobah, Svante Ingelsson, Olaf Kobacki, Ike Ugbo, Jamal Lowe, and Charlie McNeill are all in for the long haul, while James Beadle is returning from Brighton for a second stint.

However, there is still space for future additions, particularly considering the likelihood of some periphery players leaving.

Brighton teenager Mark O’Mahony has been one of the men Sheffield Wednesday has reportedly targeted, and new information on the 19-year-old striker’s purported pursuit has surfaced.

The Star reports that negotiations are underway to sign O’Mahony to a loan agreement, as Rohl is still eager to bolster his options up top. According to reports, talks between the concerned parties are continuing, and the Owls are optimistic that a deal can be reached.

Sheffield Wednesday working on Mark O'Mahony loan swoop

O’Mahony would be on his first senior loan, despite having played in 13 games for his previous team, Cork City, and having made three appearances in the Brighton first team.

As previously said, he participated in a few games for Cork City before to joining Brighton, where he has been involved in the side. However, O’Mahony has spent a lot of time at the younger level, where he has excelled.

The Seagulls U21s have scored 14 goals and provided five assists in 25 games.

He has also produced a lot of work on the global scene. O’Mahony has three goals in eight games for the U19s, after managing five goals in three games with the Republic of Ireland U18s. It won’t be long until he emerges as the newest Brighton possibility to become a star if he can maintain that level of performance in the senior game.

What effect did his signing have?

You can’t help but believe that if O’Mahony ends up joining fellow Brighton kid Beadle at Sheffield Wednesday, it would essentially signal the end of at least one striker’s career at Hillsborough.

Bailey Cadamarteri is one of the Owls’ own elite prospects who might gain from a loan. Maybe a new choice would present itself above and allow him to leave.

Other teams have also expressed interest in Michael Smith, whose playing time is probably going to be restricted as a former Richmond United player. There are also rumors that Callum Paterson will be let to leave.

That would leave room for new hires. At striker, Ugbo, Lowe, and McNeill have alternatives in addition to the possible addition of O’Mahony.
