Sheffield Wednesday, QPR and Middlesbrough men among frontrunners to join Barnsley in summer window

Sheffield Men from Middlesbrough and QPR are reportedly in the running to join Barnsley during the summer transfer window, according to Wednesday.

At Oakwell, things have not been too active in the early going, even though others have flown out of the traps in the window.Behind closed doors, work is still being done, although Conor Hourihane is the only new hire ahead of the 2024–2025 season.

It makes sense that supporters will be excited to see new players join, especially in light of the recent wave of departures following the team’s devastating play-off loss.

One could argue that Byers would benefit any League One team. The midfielder, who was released by Sheffield on Wednesday, is a free agent and would be a wise addition for the Reds.

The forward has already been loaned out by Queens Park Rangers several times, and if a breakthrough in the first team is not thought feasible, they may do so once more. With Wigan Athletic, the 22-year-old concluded the last League One campaign.

In addition to having a tonne of EFL experience, the adaptable midfielder has Premier League experience. After the team’s relegation to League One at the end of the previous campaign, he was released by Rotherham United.

Roberts is well-known at Oakwell, having spent two years as a Reds player before joining Birmingham City. After seven years with the Blues, he is free to sign with another team.

Paddy McNair (7/1)

Many would contend that McNair is a Championship player and that he is one of the most alluring free agents currently available. The defender, who graduated from Manchester United’s academy, departed Middlesbrough at the conclusion of the 2023–2024 campaign.

Cafu: 15/2

After being relegated from the Championship, Rotherham United announced the veteran midfield player’s resignation at the end of the campaign. He may have a lot more to offer the EFL at the age of 31.

With a plethora of experience both at the club and international levels, the defender checks several boxes. Cunningham, a left-back by trade, left Preston North End at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

Tom Bradshaw (12/1)

After leaving Barnsley in 2019, Bradshaw has been a somewhat consistent goal provider for Millwall. It is easy to see the 31-year-old being a danger to League One defences.
