LATEST NEWS: Serbian FA confirm that Millwall’s new record signing Mihailo Ivanovic will not feature in Nations League matches

Mihailo Ivanovic, Millwall’s latest record signing, will not play in any of their next Nations League games, the Serbian FA has confirmed.

The 19-year-old striker, who the Lions paid over £2.5 million to get on deadline day from Vojvodina, infuriated them by being asked to leave his country despite a foot issue that surfaced during his pre-contract medical examinations.

Ivanovic returned home despite Millwall providing the Serbian FA with their findings, and he was photographed in training prior to their match against Spain tonight.

“After a thorough analysis, detailed medical examinations by the medical team of our national team, and in agreement with Millwall, Mihailo Ivanovic will not be available to coach Dragan Stojkovic for the matches against Spain and Denmark due to a foot and hamstring injury,” the Serbian FA announced on social media platform X today.

Ivanovic may need to miss up to two months before he is available to the Championship team, according to information released by Lions head coach Neil Harris on Saturday.

The supporters of the club were confused when the frontman was away with Serbia.

Yesterday, Millwall released a statement of their own regarding X. The statement read, “We are honoured that Mihailo Ivanović, at the young age of 19, has been selected to represent Serbia’s national team due to his talent and hard work.”

“We are thrilled to have signed Mihailo to a long-term contract. He was recognised as a player with enormous potential earlier this summer.

“The club discovered a possible short-term metatarsal injury that might be treated with the best treatment in London after a battery of intensive medical examinations.

“Our medical team feels that Mihailo would benefit most from a period of rehabilitation and is confident that his national team will look after him well.”

“The Serbian FA and the club are in continuous communication.” We hope for the best for Mihailo on his first of many calls-ups to the national team, and we can’t wait to watch him play for Millwall in the upcoming months.
