“Risky” – Potential concern raised as Norwich City urged to avoid AFC Bournemouth transfer

Norwich City have been told to back out of the race for AFC Bournemouth striker Daniel Jebbison, who only recently signed for the Cherries but has been subjected to transfer interest from a range of Championship teams.

According to a recent reveal from HITC, Norwich have made an approach to land Jebbison on loan.

However, they face major competition with West Bromwich Albion, Stoke City, Portsmouth, Derby County and Hull City all believed to have made their interest known ahead of a likely return to the Championship for Jebbison.

The 20-year-old had played in the second-tier for Sheffield United, where he made just north of 30 appearances before leaving the Steel City on a free transfer earlier this summer.

The Canaries will be chasing additional options at the top-end of the pitch following Adam Idah’s impending switch to Celtic on a permanent basis, which will see Johannes Hoff Thorup’s side receive a healthy £9.5m figure.

Norwich City, Daniel Jebbison ruling

Although Jebbison has long been touted for a major future, injuries and stiff striking competition during his time at Bramall Lane have limited his experience in senior football. According to Football League World’s resident Norwich fan pundit Zeke Downes, Jebbison’s lack of experience is the reason why the Canaries should look elsewhere instead of sticking in the race with their Championship rivals.

Daniel Jebbison scores for Sheffield United against Hull City

“Dan Jebbison looks like an exciting striker,” Zeke stated to Football League World.

“I would worry that he’s not had enough game time, he doesn’t have the experience yet and at 21, I feel he should’ve had more experience but a loan move could work.

“It’s just quite risky because he hasn’t had much game time and we need a guy that, if [Josh] Sargent gets injured, they can come in. We’ve obviously got Ken Aboh and he could play that part in limited minutes so I don’t see why we’d then bring in a player who hasn’t got much experience.

Daniel Jebbison’s stats by season, as per FotMob
Season Club Appearances Goals Assists
2020/21 Sheffield United, Chorley (loan) 6 1 0
2021/22 Sheffield United, Burton Albion (loan) 34 9 0
2022/23 Sheffield United 19 2 2
2023/24 Sheffield United 1 0 0
“I would rather someone that’s around that age but has had more like 20-30 games where they’ve had a bit of experience. If it happens it happens, but I would be looking at slightly more experienced players than Jebbison.”

Norwich City should utilise Adam Idah cash amid Dan Jebbison claim

Idah’s return to Glasgow is poised to net Norwich an initial £8.5m, which they’ve done extremely well to secure in the first place and could be reinvested into boosting Hoff Thorup’s forward options.

Adam Idah

There are plenty of bargains to be found if you look hard enough, and it may feel like something of a waste to sell a striker for such a high fee, only to replace him with a largely unknown player on loan.

Norwich City: Chris Sutton reacts as Adam Idah closes in on Celtic return

Sutton, who played for the Canaries and the Bhoys, dropped his opinion on social media following the news that Idah would be returning to the latter.

It’s not as if selling Idah is the wrong call – indeed, there is a school of thought that Norwich have pulled off a masterstroke – but signing Jebbison on loan following such a cash influx could feel wasteful and a source of frustration among fans.

Jebbison clearly has ability and promise which is evidenced in the number of clubs lining up for his services, but as Zeke rightly points out, there is a clear element of risk given his inexperience.
