The Boston Celtics had a dismal NBA season in 2006–07. In actuality, it was among the worst regular seasons in the illustrious past of the Celtics.
With a 24-58 record at the end of the season, they had the second-worst winning percentage in a single season ever for the Celtics. The Celtics’ 15-67 record during 1996–1997 would have been the only worse season in franchise history.
The Celtics missed the NBA Playoffs for the second consecutive year. The Celtics’ record below.500 for the third time in the previous four years.
The team need a complete overhaul. The Celtics made the aggressive decision to retool around Paul Pierce, their franchise star, as opposed to adopting a gradual and methodical strategy and constructing through the NBA Draft.
Ray Allen’s acquisition from the Seattle SuperSonics was the initial stage in this process. The deal was accomplished through a trade package that included their fifth overall choice in the 2007 NBA Draft as draft rights. But the Celtics had a bigger decision to make in the 2007 summer league.
That offseason, the Celtics put a lot of effort into trying to acquire Kevin Garnett from the Minnesota Timberwolves. Although it took some time, the transaction was completed.
