Report: Aston Villa are preparing to fight Spurs for 24-year-old centre-back

According to a report in L’Equipe (as carried by GFFN), Aston Villa are now ready to confront Tottenham and other clubs in the race for Nice centre-back Jean Clair-Todibo.

It has been well reported over recent weeks that Tottenham want to bolster their alternatives at centre-back this summer and it was suggested last month by GFFN that Spurs are ready to revive their interest in Todibo.

Todibo could be prepared for summer transfer

The publication explained that the Lilywhites made a move for the Frenchman back in January but were priced out of the transfer at the time after the Ligue 1 club requested €60m (£51.1m) for the player.

However, Nice are now supposedly willing to cash in on the centre-back for €40m (£34m), which is claimed to have alerted both Spurs and Man Utd.

Todibo himself stated in an interview with The Telegraph two weeks ago that he has had contacts with the Red Devils and the Lilywhites in the past.

L’Equipe have now also talked up the potential of Todibo quitting Allianz Riviera, stating that the defender has been told he is free to leave.

However, the source indicates that quite a few clubs are currently monitoring the player’s position, with Aston Villa said to be the latest club to enter the race.

The publication claims that the Villans want to make new additions to their squad after qualifying for the Champions League and have chosen the Nice star as the guy to bolster their backline.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not see Tottenham paying £35m-£40m on a fourth-choice centre-back.

I assume that the North London club discontinued their interest in Todibo the minute they signed Radu Dragusin from Genoa back in January.

Tottenham could instead look to give Alfie Dorrington a chance in pre-season and invest the monies instead on a striker and number six.
