Everton have made a terrible start to the 2024-25 campaign as they have lost all three Premier League matches to end up at the bottom of the table.

Sean Dyche’s side will hope to make a comeback when they travel to the Midlands to take on Aston Villa following the international break.

However, the English boss could be without his experienced defender Seamus Coleman for the away match.

Coleman picked up a knock in the second-half of Ireland’s defeat by England on Saturday.

The 35-year-old has been ruled out of Tuesday’s Nations League match against Greece and is replaced by Festy Ebosele in the squad.

He has now returned to Finch Farm for treatment but may take some time to make his full recovery.

Ex-Everton defender Richard Dunne admitted his injury is a concern as it didn’t look good when he was substituted in the second-half against England.

Dunne told Liverpool Echo: “It was disappointing given Seamus’ age and the injuries that he’s had in recent seasons. We know what sort of character he is to have around the pitch so while it’s a concern as it didn’t look good when he came off on Saturday, hopefully it will be a speedy recovery for him.

“Everton have got three equally good footballers who can play the position well in their own right and with Seamus you get that added love for Everton as well as he’s been there for a long time, has been the heart and soul of the team and knows what it means to the fans to put in a performance. I’m sure it’s a position that the manager would want to get nailed down where one is available all the time, playing well regularly and ideally that would be Seamus because he’s the one that can lead the whole team rather than just look after himself on the pitch.”

Coleman has been a loyal servant for Everton since 2009 when he first joined the club.

The centre-back has made 424 appearances across all competitions so far for the Toffees, with 28 goals and 29 assists to his name.

However, he has now reached the age of 35 and tends to get injured quickly.

He remained on the sidelines for the vast majority of his 2023-24 campaign and this season hasn’t been much different.

Coleman started against Bournemouth but failed to produce a good display as his team lost 3-2 at Goodison Park.

Everton’s 2024–25 season has gotten off to a poor start as they have dropped all three of their Premier League games and are currently bottom of the standings.

After the international break, Sean Dyche’s team will head to the Midlands to play Aston Villa with the hopes of mounting a comeback.

For the road game, though, the English manager could be without his seasoned defender Seamus Coleman.

In the second half of Ireland’s Saturday loss to England, Coleman took a knock.

Festy Ebosele has been added to the team in lieu of the 35-year-old, who will not play against Greece in the Nations League on Tuesday.

Now that he’s back at Finch Farm for treatment, it could take some time for him to fully heal.

When Richard Dunne was replaced against England in the second half, the former Everton defender acknowledged that his ailment was concerning since it didn’t appear to be getting better.

“Considering Seamus’ age and the injuries he’s had recently,” Dunne stated to Liverpool Echo. Although it’s concerning since it didn’t appear good when he went off on Saturday, we know the kind of guy he is to have around the field; hopefully, he will recover quickly.

With Seamus, you get that extra passion for Everton as well. He’s been there for a long time, has been the team’s heart and soul, and understands what it means to the fans to put on a show. Everton has three equally talented football players who can play the position well in their own way. The manager would undoubtedly want to lock down a player who can play consistently and is always available. Ideally, that player would be Seamus since he can lead the squad as a whole rather than simply taking care of himself on the field.

Since his initial arrival at Everton in 2009, Coleman has been a devoted member of the team.

The center defender has made 424 appearances for the Toffees in all competitions thus far, scoring 28 goals and providing 29 assists.

He is currently 35 years old, though, and he is prone to injuries.

He missed the most of his 2023–24 season due to injury, and this season hasn’t been any different.

Coleman got the start against Bournemouth, but his team fell 3-2 at Goodison Park because of a poor performance.
