Rangers set for Leeds Utd transfer windfall as title-winning Ibrox hero eyed for bumper move to European club

Within a year of leaving Ibrox, the Finnish international may be moving again.

Glen Kamara, a former Ibrox star, may be available to Rangers at the second attempt if he decides to leave Leeds United, less than a year after arriving to Elland Road, according to sources.

After completing a £5 million initial transfer to the Yorkshire side with potential add-ons, the 28-year-old Finland international ended his four and a half year tenure in Glasgow last summer. Under manager Daniel Farke, he quickly established himself as a regular starter, amassing 42 appearances across all competitions.

A steady Eddie for much of the season, once he got going. The lack of pre-season had an impact to begin with and there were dips in form but at times he was a crucial link man for Leeds. Always covered a big distance, almost always retained the ball with that disguise he uses so well.

The sell-on clause in Kamara’s contract, which was set to expire when he moved south, was not fulfilled by the Light Blues, though, as Leeds painfully lost to Southampton in the Championship play-off final at Wembley, ruining their hopes of moving up to the English Premier League.

According to French media, Stade Rennais, a Ligue 1 team, has shown interest in the former Dundee star as they consider making a summer move. Rennes is hoping to improve on a tenth-place finish in the top flight last season, and they are reportedly looking to enhance their options in the middle of the park. Rennes may target Kamara. This is according to reputable outlet L’Equipe.

Manager Julien Stephan reportedly has the option to put Leeds to the test by making a bid for the Gers championship winner. The player was previously connected to a £10 million move to France while he was at Rangers. The box-to-box midfield star was reportedly adored by OGC Nice, but a move to the Allianz Riviera fell through. This summer, Rennes has already had to deal with a number of high-profile departures. Fabian Rieder, a Switzerland international, moved to Stuttgart on a season-long loan; Jeanuel Belocian moved to German champions Bayer Leverkusen; and the club is preparing for the possibility that Enzo Le Fee will leave for Italian powerhouse Roma in a reported £16.9 million deal.

After just 11 months at Leeds, Kamara—who cost the Gers a meagre £50,000 in January 2019—may be on the move once more.
