Rangers and Ipswich Town now locked in race to sign defender on free transfer

According to HITC, Ipswich Town has entered the competition to recruit West Ham defender Ben Johnson, with Rangers, Crystal Palace, and Leeds United.

The 24-year-old’s contract is set to expire at the end of June, thus the Hammers are working hard to extend it, according to a press story published on June 24.

The Gers are reportedly interested in hiring him despite his current injury concerns and are said to have spoken with him about it.

Rangers might have trouble obtaining Ben Johnson’s transfer.

There is intense competition for Johnson’s signature, as he is being pursued by numerous Premier League and Championship clubs.

He might be tempted to stay because he has spent his entire career in England and because top-tier teams are expressing interest in him.

Additionally, this can raise his asking price and make it challenging for Gers to match the money these clubs are offering.

The 24-year-old would also be looking for a big pay increase, which would be problematic for the Rangers.

Lastly, their search for Johnson may become more challenging due to the ambiguity surrounding James Tavernier’s future at Ibrox.

The right-back for the Hammers, Tavernier, is unlikely to accept a backup role if he decides to stay.
