Pundit Carlton Palmer Airs out As Sheffield Wednesday Set For Brentford Youngster

Charlie Goode

Charlie Goode, a former Brentford defender, seems like a great addition for Sheffield Wednesday, according to pundit Carlton Palmer.

The Owls are considering a move for Goode, who was released by Brentford at the end of his contract, according to The Star.

Goode arrived at the Bees from Northampton Town in August 2020, but he had trouble finding a spot in the starting lineup. Over his four years with the Club, he made just 20 appearances and spent time on loan at Sheffield United, Blackpool, and Wigan Athletic.

The 28-year-old, who made 13 appearances for the Latics during his loan stint at the DW Stadium in April for personal reasons, played the majority of this season in League One with Wigan.

Charlie Goode stats for Wigan Athletic (according to Sofascore)
Games 13
Clean sheets 1
Interceptions per game 0.7
Tackles per game 0.7
Balls recovered per game 3.5
Clearances per game 4.6
Passing accuracy 84%

Ike Ugbo had an incredible season finale for Sheffield Wednesday, but would they be able to resign him if he performs well in the Copa America?

Palmer is correct that Goode might end up being a wise addition for Wednesday, but the Owls will be concerned about his lack of experience playing on the first team in recent years.

In the four years after moving to Brentford, Goode has only made 38 senior appearances, and both of his loan stints at Sheffield United and Blackpool were ended by injury.

Goode may be a great signing for Wednesday if he can regain the form that led the Bees to sign him in 2020 after he was released by Northampton. There is no doubt that Goode would be a good performer at the Championship level.

If Palmer, Iorfa, or Bernard decide not to sign a new deal, Goode might be a valuable addition to the team. However, the Owls will need to carefully evaluate whether there are better options available.
