Previously linked to Middlesbrough and Millwall, the Leeds United defender is “closing in” on a £3.8 million departure.

Charlie Cresswell, a defender for Leeds United, is reportedly nearing a £3.8 million transfer to Toulouse in France. The 21-year-old formerly had many people pegged him as Leeds’ future captain after he excelled for the Whites at several junior levels. Additionally, he has demonstrated promise at the senior level, standing out in especially during his September 2021 Premier League debut against West Ham United. But in the three years following his top flight debut, Cresswell has not been able to make a lasting impression at Elland Road. After spending the 2022–2023 season on loan at Millwall, he returned to find himself on the outside looking in for Daniel Farke’s team.He only made five league appearances the previous season, and in January, he was connected to numerous teams. Those connected included Middlesbrough and Millwall, but no departure occurred.

Reporter Alan Nixon claims on his Patreon page that Toulouse, a top-tier French team, has surpassed competitors in the competition for Cresswell’s autograph. Leeds is rumoured to have made the academy product available, and the defender is reportedly eager to transfer overseas. As recently as last year, when it seemed he might play a big part under Farke, Cresswell inked a new contract at Elland Road. Rather, he encountered constrained prospects amidst fierce rivalry.Prior to Struijk’s injury, Farke’s favoured centre backs throughout the first half of the season were Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk. Then, Liam Cooper was considered the backup option ahead of Cresswell, and Ethan Ampadu was put back into defence from midfield.
