One of the many summer exits from Leeds United is already having a terrible time adjusting to his new club.
The summer transfer window is over, which will please the Whites as it was a very trying few months for the Championship team due to the loss of numerous important players. However, the Yorkshire team is living up to preseason expectations as they have won their first four league games. This is despite the departures.
Leeds loses star players for £137m.
During the summer, Leeds signed eight new players, which was important because during that three-month period, they lost a number of important players.
Nineteen players left Elland Road for the Whites, with the majority of the proceeds coming from four major sales: Georginio Rutter joining Brighton near the end of the transfer window; Archie Gray going to Tottenham Hotspur; Luis Sinisterra going to Bournemouth; and Crysencio Summerville going to West Ham.
Leeds’ four important players from the previous season would have been crucial again this season as the team attempts to make a run at the championship. But Premier League teams started to take notice, and ultimately the club’s offer was too good to refuse given that they had made almost £137 million in total from the summer sales.
Last but not least, Rutter said goodbye to his followers on Instagram with an emotional post that said, “It’s hard for me to say goodbye, but the time has come for me to move on.” I thought I was joining something great when I joined Leeds, but I had no idea how much this club would mean to me. For me, Leeds United has been more than simply a team; it’s a family that has encouraged and developed me.
“You, the supporters, have always supported me and shown me what it means to be a Leeds player from the very beginning. I’ll never forget how you made me feel comfortable and at home.
“I had a lot of wonderful experiences, close friendships, and hard labor throughout my stay here. I’m incredibly appreciative that I’m going away a better person and athlete. I may be going in a different direction, but Leeds United will always hold a special place in my heart. I’m sending you my best wishes for the future and the difficulties you’ll face. Leeds, I’m extremely grateful for everything. I will always remember you. Georginio, MOT.
£8 million Leeds sale failing at the new team
Another player that departed Elland Road this summer to join French team Rennes is midfielder Glen Kamara. After playing 42 games for the Yorkshire team the previous season, Kamara is rumored to have been acquired by the Ligue 1 team for about £8 million.
Rennes might be viewed as a step up for the player, but Kamara’s new team has lost two of its first three games this season, making it tough for both the club and Kamara. The Finland international was substituted off after 72 minutes throughout the weekend, despite having started all three.
Kamara had 39 touches of the ball in the 2-1 loss to Reims, and he concluded with an 87% accuracy percentage in passing. However, in the 72 minutes he played, the midfield player gave up possession of the ball nine times and was dribbled past once. With a Sofascore of 6.5 at the end of the match, he received a dismal 3/10 from the French national media.
Kamara suffered when he had to play as a two-man defensive midfielder, according to Stade Rennes Online, which Leeds United News cited: “Efficient in the diamond, he completely sank as a pair in front of the defence.” At the half, he had lost nine balls, was having trouble passing, and his partnership with Matusiwa had broken without producing any results.
