EXCLUSIVE NEWS:One of the oldest bars in the East End at The Barras popular with Celtic fans is to close its doors

A well-known Irish pub on the Barras has declared it would soon close.

The Stevenson Street Squirrel declared that it will close for good on October 31.

On matchdays, the pub has long been a gathering place for Celtic supporters and was well-known for its live music. The location on Stevenson Street in the Calton has been home to a pub since 1857.

“This status has taken me so long to write as I found it really hard to put in to words, as of the 31st of October this year, my time in the squirrel bar will come to an end,” the message that was shared on social media said. I attempted to make the bar work after over 14 years of operating it with Stephen (Skin), but after hearing what’s in store for the pub, my heart simply isn’t in it anymore. As most of you know, this bar was his baby, and after his passing, it’s never been the same.
