Marti Cifuentes stated that Jack Colback’s time away from QPR has been extended because he had to have surgery on his knee.
QPR has had a rough start to the season and will be eager to get back on track soon.
The game against Portsmouth this weekend is a great chance for Marti Cifuentes’ team to get their second win, which they really need. Pompey has had a terrible start to their time back in the Championship after a tough stretch of games. In nine games, they have not won a single one.
The international break gave the R’s a chance to rest and start over, which should help them get back on track. Before Pompey came, it was hoped that the time off would help defender Jack Colback get back in shape in time for their visit.
But that hasn’t happened, and now QPR will be without the 34-year-old for a longer time.
West London Sport reported that Hoops manager Cifuentes stated that Colback had to have surgery on his knee because it wasn’t getting better. After a small surgery, he will need “some weeks” to heal.
“Against Sheffield Wednesday he got [what seemed like] a minor injury but, in the end, conservative treatment was not enough. It will take some weeks for him to recover.”
QPR haven’t been able to call upon Colback since the draw with Sheffield Wednesday last month. He offers an energetic and experienced figure in the middle of the park and can cover on the left-hand side too.
It seems Cifuentes won’t be able to consider him for selection for the foreseeable either. Time will tell whether an exact timeframe appears regarding his recovery
In his absence, Cifuentes will have to make do with the midfield choices at his disposal. They’re not exactly blessed with depth at Loftus Road but Sam Field, Jonathan Varane and Nicolas Madsen are all options, while Elijah Dixon-Bonner may be hopeful of a chance.
QPR have a great chance to get a useful win on the board this weekend.
Portsmouth have struggled to take to life in the Championship and while the West London outfit have experienced struggles of their own, they should be confident of overcoming the League One title winners on home turf.
Pompey will be out to prove a point though and will not be rolling over and submitting as they look to prove their skills in the second-tier.
