Joe Hart’s retirement has resulted in a long list of shot-stoppers being associated with the Scottish champions over the previous couple of months.

Celtic need to get this transfer right, having learned what an uncertain goalkeeping situation can do to a season just a few years ago.

Jensen has emerged as the favourite to take on the hole left by Hart, with Celtic understood to be anxious for a satisfactory outcome to negotiations with Sparta over the coming weeks.

However, the Czech double-winners are thought to hold a strong hand in those negotiations and won’t allow their star goalie go for cheap.

Football Scotland reports that Sparta Prague are hoping for a fee in excess of £4m for the midfielder, which would take a large hole out of Celtic’s summer budget.

However, any seven-figure amount is undoubtedly doable for the Bhoys. Having banked another season of UEFA Champions League money and set for more next term, the resources are there to chase a goal they believe in.

If Jensen is the man chosen by the scouting staff and Brendan Rodgers to take on the assignment then the club should go and grab him without any hesitation.

Sparta don’t seem to demand anything exorbitant for a successful goalkeeper who has excelled at Europa League level.

Celtic can’t be lured into a goalkeeping dispute that carries on all summer. Rodgers would certainly want his guy in the door early to acclimatise to his defensive line and the obstacles of Scottish football.
