Casey Mize continued his dominant 2025 campaign with another masterful performance on the mound, further cementing his breakout season as one of the best storylines in baseball.
Pitching with command and confidence, the Detroit Tigers right-hander delivered seven scoreless innings in Saturday’s win, allowing just four hits while striking out eight. It marked Mize’s fourth consecutive quality start and lowered his season ERA to an impressive 2.47.
“He’s been incredible for us all year,” Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said. “Every time he takes the mound, he gives us a chance to win. That’s all you can ask for from a frontline starter.”
Mize, a former No. 1 overall pick, has fully bounced back from past injuries and inconsistencies that once clouded his future. This season, he has emerged as the ace Detroit hoped for when they drafted him in 2018.
“I feel like everything is starting to click,” Mize said after the game. “My stuff is sharp, and I’m trusting my preparation. It’s been a lot of fun.”
The Tigers’ pitching staff has been a major reason for the team’s improved play this year, and Mize’s continued excellence could play a pivotal role in keeping Detroit in the postseason hunt.
With each dazzling outing, Mize is proving that 2025 might just be his year.
