BREAKING NEWS: Millwall’s Player of the Season – Ryan Leonard – signs improved contract

Ryan Leonard has agreed to a better deal with Millwall.

A 12-month extension option has previously been triggered by the 32-year-old after making a certain number of appearances.

However, it is said by the South London Press that the Lions have given the former Sheffield United and Southend player credit for his outstanding 2018 campaign, which saw him take home the Millwall Supporters’ Club Player of the Season award.

Leonard is still under contract for a year, with an option to extend.

Prior to this season, he had experienced a season marred by injuries while playing for Millwall, making 37 appearances across all competitions.

Leonard is capable of playing in a back three or at right-back, moving away from the midfield position for which he was initially recognised while playing for the South Londoners.

At the conclusion of the previous campaign, he told our paper, “I’ve tried to do different things away from football.” The mental aspect of it is substantial. I’ve made an effort to focus my energies in other directions and not overthink things.

“I started doing yoga. Even when I’m well, I’ve worked much harder with the physiotherapists and received a lot more care in an effort to stay proactive rather than reactive.

“Confidence plays a big part as well. having self-assurance in both your physical appearance and your abilities.

“After learning that, I’ve taken a step back and try to enjoy being on the other side of it, away from football, when I’m coming off of practice and games.”
