BREAKING NEWS: Millwall’s path being cleared by Spurs for transfer coup may actually be an issue: View

Neil Harris will be looking for a busy summer transfer window as he wants to avoid a repetition of the 2023/24 season for Millwall Football Club.

This campaign was disappointing for the Lions, given the fact that prior campaigns had seen the London club contend at the upper end of the table.

Millwall were very dismal for the majority of the season, with results only improving when Harris was brought back to the club towards the end of the year.

Harris steered the club to safety, and he will now be challenged with putting a squad together that can go much better than this season.

One player who the Millwall boss would like to keep as part of his club is defender Japhet Tanganga. He joined the club on loan in January and was impressive, helping the Lions survive the drop.

Millwall may have just been granted a help in their goal of keeping the player, as it’s been revealed that he will be leaving Tottenham Hotspur.

Japhet Tanganga has been with Tottenham since an early age, playing for the club’s youth teams, the under-18s, then the under-21s, and finally the first team.

The 25-year-old made his first team debut in the 2019/20 season, participating in different competitions, including the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup.

From there on, Tanganga continued to feature for the team as the seasons progressed, with him playing 11 times in the 2021/22 Premier League season.

But changes of managers at Spurs meant the defender was sometimes in and out of the team, and it culminated in his being loaned out to two sides in the 2023/24 season.

Tanganga originally signed German team FC Augsburg, but he failed to appear for the club in any game, and then he joined Millwall for the second half of the season.

Millwall's path being cleared by Spurs for Japhet Tanganga may actually be an issue

That loan has now finished, and the player has returned to Tottenham, but the club has now disclosed their retained list, and it’s been confirmed that Tanganga will be leaving at the end of the month when his contract ends.

The news that Japhet Tanganga is scheduled to depart Tottenham at the end of the month will be perceived as a good thing by Millwall supporters, and it may turn out to be right.

However, the decision by Spurs not to offer the player a new deal could possibly present an issue for the Championship club, as it may mean several other teams take notice of his predicament and attempt to offer the player a contract.Tanganga played very well while his loan at The Den, as he scored two goals in 17 league appearances, playing a vital role in the club staying in the division.

Out of the 18 games, Tanganga started 17, with him averaging 86 minutes on the pitch each game, and his performances even got noted by Sofascore.com.

The 25-year-old performed fairly well in front of goal, as by scoring those two goals, he concluded his time with Millwall having a goal conversion rate of 29%, which is rather impressive given he isn’t a guy meant to be scoring.

But as well as chipping in with the goals, Tanganga was more outstanding in his defensive duties, as he made 1.4 interceptions as well as 1.2 tackles per game and recovered the ball 3.4 times, which enabled him be part of a defence that kept five clean sheets.

His loan stay with Millwall went down quite well, and that is why he picked up a Sofascore.com rating of 7.06.

These stats indicate why Millwall and Harris would be keen on bringing the player back to the club on a permanent basis, and while their prospects may be marginally better now that Spurs are letting the player depart for free, it might still present an issue for them
