BREAKING NEWS: Millwall FC transfer team deserve serious credit for unearthing £1.7m gem: View

In recent seasons, Millwall has seen a number of players come and go, but few have achieved as much success as Zian Flemming.

The Lions were a squad that came up from League One and the second division before they made a name for themselves as a championship team.

In addition to their inconsistent play, Millwall has never been a team with a lot of money available throughout transfer windows.

However, they altered that in 2022 when they paid a respectable sum of money to recruit Flemming, a player who was unknown to many English fans.

In 2022, Millwall spent £1.7 million to acquire Zian Flemming.

Flemming began his football career with the Pancratius youth squad before moving on to the Ajax youth setup in 2008.

The attacker played for the Dutch powerhouses for ten years until leaving in 2018 to play for PEC Zwolle, where he spent two years.

Despite only scoring six goals in his 32 games for PEC Zwolle, Flemming’s performance was sufficient for Fortuna Sittard to sign him in 2020.

In 63 appearances across all competitions, the 25-year-old scored 27 goals and sent out 11 assists during this period of outstanding play.

Although he was still largely unknown, Millwall appeared to be interested in him after he spent two seasons with the Dutch team. A reported £1.7 million was spent to sign him.

The Lions’ transfer fee for Ryan Leonard was surpassed by the agreement for Flemming, setting a new club record for transfers. However, the club’s transfer team should get a lot of credit for bringing Flemming to the team.

Millwall should be commended greatly for locating Zian Flemming.

As was previously said, Zian Flemming played his entire career in his native Netherlands and had never participated in English football before joining Millwall in 2022.

The signing of Flemming carried some risk because, as a result of his limited playing experience in the Netherlands, he lacked Championship experience and had never played English football.

Consequently, there was concern about his ability to manage the league’s expectations, given the Championship’s reputation for brutality.

However, as soon as the 25-year-old joined the Millwall team and got to know it, he quickly rose to fame under former manager Gary Rowett.

Playing in all but three Championship games, Flemming scored 15 goals and provided three assists in his debut season with the team.

Although he was only managing an incredible three shots per game, he might have easily had more goals that season considering that he also squandered five excellent opportunities.

Flemming was excellent in the attacking department as well, setting up ten excellent opportunities for his teammates and perhaps picking up more assists in other situations.

His tenure at The Den got off to a great start with the 2022–2023 season, and going into the next season, there was a lot of hope that he could pull off the feat.

Sadly, neither Millwall nor Flemming had as much success in the 2023–2024 campaign; the Lions had poor results, and Flemming was unable to reach the same level of play.
