After Mihailo Ivanovic visits a specialist later this week in the capital, Millwall will receive more information regarding when he is expected to return to playing for the club record acquisition.
The striker, 19, was acquired by the Lions for an estimated sum of £3 million.
However, following the team’s 3-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday prior to the international break, head coach Neil Harris disclosed that Ivanovic will likely miss many weeks due to a metatarsal problem.
Ivanovic was photographed during several of Serbia’s training sessions, yet they still called him up before to the Nations League matches. However, it was announced at the end of last week that Ivanovic suffered a hamstring injury and that the Serbian FA had decided to withdraw him from their matches against Denmark and Spain.
Following an agreement with Vojvodina on deadline day, Millwall sent the Serbian national team with the results of Ivanovic’s completed medical.
“I can see from the outside why it might look like there was a dispute of sorts between the Serbian national team and the football club, but that wasn’t the case,” Harris said to the South London Press today.
“Everyone should know, in my opinion, that according to FIFA regulations, the national team will always take precedence over all other football teams, including our own and those from other countries.
Our only responsibility is to inform the Serbian FA of Mihailo’s whereabouts. Due to injury, we would have had to withdraw him from our match against Sheffield Wednesday.
Mihailo wanted to travel, and the Serbian FA wanted to meet him in person. Since Mihailo would be greatly honored to meet the national squad, we wanted him to go.
“He is not capped.” It is a huge honor to be called up and to meet the players and head coach of Serbia for the first time. As an England player, I would have delighted to have been in that situation and able to accomplish it.
We believed his departure to be crucial. The training argument began with a judgment call made a few days in advance, after which they may have chosen to reverse course and allow him to return to England and adhere to the protocol we have established.
This week, he will consult a specialist to find out what his next course of action should be. The following actions are now unknown; they won’t be known until Thursday afternoon.
“After he sees a renowned specialist in London, we can formalize the plan from there.”
“After Thursday, we will provide everyone with an update on Mihailo’s prospects for the upcoming days, weeks, and months.
“We have high hopes that a swift resolution will be reached and that he will play for us in the near future.
The fact that he has a long-term deal with us is the greater picture. At the age of 19, he was called up to the Serbian national team. His potential and pedigree are readily apparent to everybody.
The Serbian FA values the promising future that all of us hope he has. It is well-documented in Serbia. Our working relationship with the Serbian FA is excellent.
