Following Duncan Watmore’s double in Millwall’s 3-2 loss to Watford last weekend, Neil Harris believes the attacker’s significance to the team during their previous Championship campaign “really went under the radar.”
Watmore outperformed the Hornets with two great finishes.
In 53 games for the Lions, the 30-year-old, who is in the last year of his Den contract, has scored 10 goals and provided three assists.
Following Harris’s return to the sidelines in February, Watmore contributed significant goals, scoring in victories over Cardiff and Sunderland and a 1-1 draw with West Brom.
“Harris told the South London Press that Duncan has been outstanding in the preseason.” “I felt that he truly missed the mark last season, when I was around, in terms of his potential to provide us something fresh, that spark.
“I prefer it when my wide players can enter the penalty area and not only show creativity but also score a goal.”
It is critical for our team to have a goal threat with a broad range of abilities. That was a problem my teams had in the past, especially with Jed Wallace and Aiden O’Brien at Millwall and Harry Wilson at Cardiff.
“Duncan and I have had a lot of conversations during the summer on specific goals, appearances, and games that he needs to accomplish. That’s just something we’re trying to work out for the season, just the two of us.
“He’s going to be a crucial member of our team, but we also appreciate that you’re trying to keep him healthy and maximize his potential for the duration of this season.”
