Millwall boss makes ‘key’ Leeds United admission ahead Championship fixtures release

Neil Harris, the manager of Millwall, says he will start watching Leeds United when the Championship dates are released. The schedule for the upcoming season will be announced at nine in the morning on Wednesday. Leeds and the other twenty-three second-tier teams will find out their respective paths throughout the 2024–25 season.

For football fans, it’s usually an exciting day as they spend time going through their clubs’ schedules, making travel plans, estimating how tough starts and run-ins will be, and selecting games against rival teams. It appears that managers are no different, as Harris acknowledges that when he first sees the new season’s schedule, Leeds will be on his mind.

The rivalry between the two teams, which has existed for a while, was reignited last season when the Whites defeated the Lions.Leeds achieved a 3-0 victory, the biggest margin of victory between the two teams ever, thanks to goals from Joel Piroe and Georginio Rutter as Daniel Farke’s men went wild at The Den, quieting the notoriously lively home crowd.

When Millwall travelled to Elland Road in March, there was also no love lost as the two teams engaged in a somewhat tense match that resulted in seven yellow cards being given out. In the end, Leeds prevailed 2-0 as well, moving up to the top of the Championship table behind goals from Dan James and Wilfried Gnonto.

Harris is excited to make new friends in the upcoming season as Millwall hasn’t had any success in this fixture since October 2019.

The Millwall manager stated the South London Press, “I always like to be at home the first game of the season.” And I always pay attention to Leeds games—both home and away—because they are important to me.

“I always look forward to the Christmas schedule; it’s a crucial time for the football team’s balance, fixtures, and family time. Apart from that, you have personal preferences for which games to play first and which teams to avoid. In the end, the fixtures are chosen at random, and you receive the person you are assigned.

We eagerly await Wednesday because, in my opinion, it is a significant day in the yearly football schedule. Even on days when international football is the focus during the Euros, the EFL’s fixtures release day truly sets the tone for a large portion of the public to begin thinking about club football once more.
