When Grimsby Town hosts Sheffield Wednesday in the Carabao Cup, they will be missing midfielder Jordan Davies.
Following his short departure from the Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds project in Wales, Davies has played three times and scored twice for the Mariners since joining the team on loan from Wrexham this season. He will undoubtedly have been thrilled about the next season.
It will thus have been a major setback when he sustained a hamstring injury during the weekend’s 4-1 loss to Notts County. This ailment will prevent him from playing against the Owls and may require a lengthy recovery period. Although they’re awaiting testing, according to his manager David Artell, Tuesday night’s game will probably come too soon.
“After the game, he told BBC Radio Humberside that he had tweaked his hamstring, so obviously he’s upset.” That’s most likely what disappointed me the most this evening. After assessing and scanning him, we’ll find out the prognosis.”
On the injury front, there is good news for Wednesday as both Nathaniel Chalobah and Akin Famewo have resumed full training with the team. Both players may be able to play in the upcoming second round match at Blundell Park, which would be Chalobah’s first competitive match.
Ben Hamer, who sustained an injury during the preseason, is still out as he heals. Pierce Charles, a young goalie, is probably going to replace James Beadle in goal in what should be a significantly altered starting lineup for the Owls.
