Luton Town – The Thoughts Of Honest Rob – Millwall (a)

One advantage of securing a victory, in an early kick-off, is it gives you plenty of time to celebrate, on the way home.

Based on the above, is there a better place to take in a few celebratory drinks than London, probably not.

As the afternoon wore on, the subject of Rob Edwards naturally arose.

Our little select group were pondering over what lie in store for Rob if our run of poor form had continued.

Despite putting pen-to-paper on a new contact, back in June, could his position have been at risk?

I’d hope to think not, but, as we all know, football is a strange game and strange decisions are made.

I’m guessing the two week international break gave Rob plenty of valuable time to work with the team and yesterday it showed with the Hatters showing enough resilience, under pressure, to earn that elusive first win, although Millwall pushed us hard in the second half.

Talking to the BBC, the gaffer had this to say about the game and holding on for the three points:

“In the end, they sort of wore us down and there were a lot of long free-kicks and long throws. It just became a real battle, which was disappointing, to be honest.”

“They know it’s important to try and win a game when you’re 1-0 up and it becomes a bit more frantic, and the fans are having a go, and obviously the whole feel and emotion around the place is tense when the win is on the line.”

It was tense, although the New Den was far from full, the home support still create that eery support that reminds me of times gone by when it was a far from safe place to journey to.

Continuing, Rob further added:

“It is pleasing to do it in the end, and we needed our goalkeeper a couple of times, which was disappointing, from the corner and from one of our own giveaways, a couple of brilliant saves from Thomas.”

Kaminski was immense and must have been relieved to keep a clean sheet, especially after making a couple of fine saves to deny our hosts.

Further continuing, the gaffer added:

“But when you come here you have to show some character, some fight, which we asked for at the very beginning, and we showed that.

“People had been making out a lot that we hadn’t won for a bit, but the monkey’s off our back now.”

It may be Rob, but that old saying – “You are only as good as your last result” – springs to mind.
