Leeds-linked attacker would be ‘Happy’ to make Elland Road move as transfer fee set – report

Graeme Bailey claims that Jack Clarke, a winger for Sunderland, would be delighted to leave the Stadium of Light and make a dramatic comeback to Leeds United.

Prior to the transfer deadline, the writer revealed to TBR Football on Monday, August 19, that the Black Cats attacker is expected to depart the North East before August 30.

In an attempt to strengthen their offensive options following Crysencio Summerville’s exit, Daniel Farke’s team is rumored to be in the running to recruit the 23-year-old this summer.

According to reports, Sunderland has put a £25 million price tag on Clarke’s head and won’t allow him to leave unless their demands are fulfilled [Sunderland Echo, August 19].

Will Jack Clarke leave Sunderland to sign a contract with Leeds United?

After playing well in the Championship with Sunderland the past two seasons, supporters will have to assume that Clarke would very much like to go up into the Premier League this summer.

However, returning to Leeds United and Elland Road may be the greatest option if a move to the top tier isn’t possible, since it will provide Clarke with a strong platform to return to the top division soon.

The winger will be able to play in the Premier League immediately if Farke’s team improves on their performance from the previous season and secures a spot in the automatic promotion spots.

If not, Summerville and Georginio Rutter have shown that a move to Elland Road can offer you a route back into the top flight even if you don’t manage to win promotion out of the Championship.

Whether or not Leeds will be willing to match Sunderland’s asking price remains to be seen, however. £25million is a big fee for a player outside of the Premier League, but Farke’s side does have money to spend.

This feels like a deal that could go right down to the wire on deadline day, but the positive news is the fact that the Whites are still in the running.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have 11 days to sell Patrick Bamford after new transfer developments at Elland Road.
