LATEST NEWS: “Premier League clubs will be looking” – Gary Rowett delivers Millwall transfer warning

Former Millwall manager Gary Rowett has praised Romain Esse, saying Premier League clubs will be keeping an eye on him.

Under Rowett, the Lions gave the 19-year-old his debut, and he has since made nearly 50 appearances for the team.

Millwall supporters have witnessed glimpses of Esse’s potential over that period, and they are optimistic that the attacker may have a significant effect this season.

Rowett, who has previously worked closely with Esse on a daily basis, is fully aware of the teenager’s talent and told Sky Sports that if he begins to play with class consistently, he has the ability to play at a higher level.

“Premier League teams will be closely examining him.”

“He is really talented. To be honest, he was one of those kids you looked at and said, “Wow,” when he initially joined the team a few years ago.

“I don’t think he’s shown that on the pitch yet, but if he does, he has the potential to be a huge star. He possesses everything.

“This season, I’m expecting big things from him. He’s off to a great start, scoring a few goals, but he needs more games to really shine.” Like any young player, he needs to try to stay on the team even when he plays poorly. I know it may be challenging for a manager to deal with that, but he has so much potential, and I’ve been very impressed with him.

“He has such a great personality and performs flawlessly in training. He arrives for training early, shakes hands with everyone, is very kind, and possesses a hint of X-factor. Sometimes it’s simple for Millwall to select players who will put in a lot of work and satisfy the supporters, but Esse can offer something different.

Romain Esse’s future looks promising.

Esse’s future was secured by Millwall earlier this summer on a “long-term extension,” for which the team is extremely grateful. As a result, there won’t be any concern about losing him in the upcoming window or windows.

Esse is a player who has the ability to play at a far higher level, even though it may not be what Millwall supporters want to hear.

But in the immediate term, Millwall is the ideal team for Esse because they will provide him with the game time he requires and he will be eager to contribute significantly to the group.

Esse needs to produce consistently, as Rowett points out, but since he is still a relatively young player, you can only hope that consistency develops with time and experience given his abundance of natural talent.

This is precisely the strategy that Millwall has to employ going forward: developing young players and providing them with a stage on which to perform before trying to sell them for a substantial profit and reinvesting the proceeds back into the team.

Without a doubt, Romain Esse is Milwall’s most valuable asset. Being a top talent, Milwall will be aware that if teams make moves, they can fetch a high price.

Since teams like Brighton and Brentford have had success with this approach, Millwall will not be able to outspend their opponents at this level, thus they will need to improve in terms of player development and trades.
