Neil Harris has provided information about the conversations that Millwall had with Middlesbrough in order to persuade them to loan Josh Coburn out.
The Teesside striker eventually joined the South London club on loan for the remainder of the season, following a summer transfer window that saw a lot of speculation. Following that, Michael Carrick expressed his opinion that it was the appropriate next move for the Teessider, who needed to play in meaningful games this season. It’s thought that Millwall wasn’t the only team to be impressed and intrigued by the 21-year-old. However, Harris provides fresh insight into the talks that transpired between the two teams, stating that after hearing Harris’s plans for Coburn this season, Boro were ‘eager’ to move him to the Den.
The head of the Lions stated to Southwark News, “Boro has a pathway for their players.” [Emmanuel] A really good player that has been ahead of him is Latte Lath. Well, they signed Tommy Conway, so this isn’t me speaking for Michael. According to what I gather, they felt it was appropriate to send Josh out on loan in order for him to develop. As we attempted to accomplish with Aidomo Emakhu.
After I spoke with them and described how we’re going to play and what I wanted Josh to do, they were quite thrilled about sending him to us. You want your players to develop in different ways. Josh was very eager to visit since, in my opinion, his qualities completely complemented our football team and my style.”
After joining on the day of the transfer deadline, Coburn was able to make an instant impression on his new team just 24 hours later. He opened the scoring in Millwall’s 3-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday, the team’s first league victory of the new year. Following the game, Harris said that Coburn had given his team “belief and confidence” and that he will be a key member of their team this term.
