LATEST NEWS: £32m CELTIC CASH SPLASH

Before Adam Idah was acquired earlier this month, the Hoops’ all-time high was the £9 million signing of French striker Odsonne Edouard from Paris Saint-Germain in 2018 following an outstanding season-long loan.

The frontman for the Republic of Ireland convinced the champions to give up a sum that might increase to £9.5 million in order to permanently move him from Norwich City to Parkhead following a brief temporary transfer.

On August 13, the record stood for all seventeen days prior to the £11 million arrival of Belgian midfielder Arne Engels from Bundesliga team Augsburg. The deal for the formidable attack leader was finalised on that day.

In the window that ended at 11 p.m. yesterday, with the late £1 million purchase of Dundee captain Luke McCowan, busy boss Rodgers was engaged in eight incoming deals.

That increased the champs’ summer spending to £32 million, a substantial increase over the £19 million they spent over the same time previous year.

The biggest transaction of the previous year was the £4.3 million paid to Legia Warsaw for Maik Nawrocki, a centre-back.

The next transfer was the £3.25 million for Honduran winger Luis Palma to Greek club Aris Thessaloniki, and the £3 million for Elfsborg-based Swedish defender Gustaf Lagerbielke.

For a relatively cheap £850,000, midfielder Kwon Hyeon-kyu joined from South Korean team Busan I-Park. In January, he made a temporary move to St Mirren and this time, he agreed to a season-long contract with Hibs.
