According to Mike McGrath, Leeds United and St Gallen fullback Isaac Schmidt are getting close to a deal ahead of the transfer deadline.
Daniel Farke’s team is reportedly in talks for a last-minute deal for the 24-year-old defender ahead of the Friday, August 30 transfer deadline at Elland Road, according to a Telegraph writer via X on Thursday, August 29.Schmidt is expected to play for St. Gallen against Trabzonspor in their Europa Conference League playoff match tonight as they attempt to secure a spot in the competition’s group stages after a scoreless draw in the first leg at home.
With whispers swirling about a move to Leeds United, will Isaac Schmidt leave St Gallen?
The player’s photo in a Leeds United uniform makes anything official, but it appears the Whites are in a great position to sign another player before the transfer market closes on Friday night.
Farke is in desperate need of reinforcements to help Leeds continue their push for return to the Premier League. The Whites haven’t had a bad start to the season, but they haven’t had the quality to truly get out to a fast start.
Although Leeds’ options in the wide areas of defence have increased with the addition of Jayden Bogle, there isn’t much depth behind him and Junior Firpo, and the players who are waiting in the wings have had injury struggles.
If Schmidt is not included in St Gallen’s team for their Europa Conference League match on Thursday, supporters should have a better notion of how probable this transaction is to go.
The Swiss defender’s move to Elland Road appears to be almost certain if he isn’t visible.
