The attacker still has ambitions to play for Rangers despite moving to La Liga in the summer.
A striker for La Liga maintains that wearing a Rangers jersey is still his dream.
Even though Oli McBurnie and Las Palmas have just recently arrived in Spain, he has never disguised his admiration for the Ibrox club. Potential opportunities to join the team have come and gone in negotiations in the past, and none materialized this summer after he became a free agent after leaving Sheffield United.
Currently on vacation in Spain, he contributed to an exciting 1-1 draw with Real Madrid and recorded an assist. Although he is now focused on playing for Las Palmas, the Scotland international says he would still like to play for Rangers in the future.
When asked if he still wanted to join with the Rangers, McBurnie said to Open Goal, “Yeah, 100%.” In all fairness, this was the one year I didn’t hear from them.
“There have always been discussions, but neither they nor I have felt that it is the right moment for anything to happen. However, given that I signed a three-year contract here, I don’t think this is the proper time for me to do it.
“I had a free contract in the summer, of course. Sheffield and I kept in constant communication. I adore the location and everything about it, but I was kind of ready for a change of pace. I have a few properties in Saudi Arabia, but I recently had my daughter, and if I decide to move there, I’ll do so to retire.
My agent then called to inform me that Las Palmas had recently submitted an offer. The following day, they conducted a Zoom call and gave a thorough presentation on my style of play and how it would fit with theirs.”
