JUST NOW: Jack Butland left ‘sickened’ by Celtic defeat as Rangers star reveals what is ‘doing his head in’

At Celtic Park, the Light Blues got off to a respectable start in the first ten minutes, but Daizen Maeda’s strike at the back post after he caught James Tavernier off guard gave them the lead. Before the half, Kyogo doubled the Hoops’ lead with another long-range goal thanks to further shoddy defence. Callum McGregor, the captain, added a final goal late in the second half.

After four Premiership games, the loss has left Rangers five points behind their fierce rivals. Clement is still yet to win in the match, having now lost four of his five encounters with Brendan Rodgers. The deflated stopper, speaking to Rangers TV, is tired of the Gers consistently shooting themselves in the foot on crucial occasions. “To be honest, it’s sickening,” he said.

“We got off to a strong start in the game, producing some excellent early opportunities and displaying some confidence when we had the ball to create. However, we were not given an early objective that would help us in this situation. We’re attempting to figure out a way back into the game when you give away opportunities from scenarios that we controlled. Therefore, we are all disappointed—me included—and it hurts. It won’t be easy, but we have a few weeks to think about this before we return to the pitch with hopes of winning and learning from today.

Since I know what we can do, I don’t want it to get too comfortable because, to be honest, it is giving me a headache. This team has enough members to produce outcomes, but we’re not giving ourselves the best chance to do so. That is our collective responsibility, so we must examine it and improve as a result. The fans are probably just as irritated as we are.”
