James McFadden believes Celtic could be about to make a ‘statement’ in this transfer window

This summer, Celtic has turned down five bids from Serie A team Atalanta as Brendan Rodgers wants to keep his star player at Celtic Park and the board seeks for the going rate for the excellent midfield player.

O’Riley became the most in-demand player at Celtic, and eleven other teams, including Southampton, Brighton, and Juventus, expressed interest.

But, it appears like O’Riley, the Celtic midfielder, is still content at the team given that Atalanta appears to be out of the picture and that he hasn’t allowed the transfer rumors to impair his play.

James McFadden believes Celtic could be about to make a 'statement' in this transfer window

For this reason, James McFadden thinks that if Celtic are able to hold onto O’Riley past this summer, they may be ready to make a “statement.”

According to McFadden, O’Riley cannot be replaced.

The midfield trio of Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, and the Danish international, in McFadden’s opinion, is the finest Brendan Rodgers will have at Celtic if O’Riley stays with the team.

“What a statement that is if they get to the end of the window and he [Matt O’Riley] stays,” McFadden said to Open Goal.

“If the current midfield trio remains healthy, there isn’t a superior choice available to you.
