Why Isaiah Thomas has ‘no comparison’ to playing for Celtics

NBA fans may believe that despite Isaiah Thomas ‘s injury-plagued play and willingness to lead the team to the Conference Finals, the Boston Celtics betrayed him for Kyrie Irving in 2017. But despite his transition to a journeyman, the former All-Star still harbors strong feelings for the Celtics supporters. Isaiah Thomas stated as much when he appeared with Darius Miles and Quentin Richardson on the Knuckleheads Podcast.

“It’s not comparable… Amazing to play for the Celtics, and the affection you receive afterward… You would believe that I was the champion. The affection I experienced there right away… In the interview, Thomas said, “It’s just different.”

Following the move, Thomas’s body began to suffer from injuries that robbed him of his burst and athleticism, which were crucial for him as a tiny guard to score in the midst of the trees. Furthermore, since teams value floor spacing and ball/player movement more than anything else, the game might not place as much value on undersized score-first guards. Thomas never played much on the court last season, although he did end up with the Phoenix Suns.

At this stage of his career, he might be more useful to a club that is rebuilding and needs a veteran presence, or to a squad that is vying for a title and needs men who can hold the group together. Nevertheless, as demonstrated by his iconic performance in the G League, the former Celtics guard was a formidable scorer when at his peak. When Isaiah Thomas spoke on the Knuckleheads podcast, he talked about how the Celtics fans cherished him because of his passion and spectacular scoring abilities.

If the former MVP finalist decides to hang up his shoes permanently, he also has goals outside of the game. For example, if and when the Seattle Supersonics return to the NBA through expansion, Thomas would like to work in the front office or coaching staff.
