BREAKING NEWS: Ipswich Town want to sign Ben Johnson on free transfer with West Ham United exit on cards

The Telegraph reports that Ipswich Town is hoping to capture West Ham United defender Ben Johnson this summer on a free transfer.

After being promoted to the Premier League, Kieran McKenna wants to sign the full-back to expand his options at the defence, according to a news source article published on June 22.

Johnson’s contract ends at the end of the month, so he is free to depart, but the Hammers have made him an offer to sign a new five-year contract [The Athletic, June 11] in an attempt to persuade him to stick around for the upcoming season.

West Ham is fighting for Ben Johnson.

Johnson’s desire to leave the team and play more regularly for the first squad has been known for a few years, and it appears that he is starting to get his wish.

The 24-year-old’s versatility was both a blessing and a burden as he was frequently utilised as a utility option under David Moyes.

However, he wants to play more frequently and settle down, and because the Hammers are unable to meet his wage expectations, it doesn’t seem likely that their relationship will last past the summer.

Other Premier League teams are also very interested in his talents, and even though they can’t meet his salary demands, they will almost definitely provide him more playing time on a regular basis.

Like they did with Aaron Cresswell earlier this summer, West Ham is attempting to persuade him, although as of right now, it seems improbable.
