BREAKING NEWS: Ipswich Town Learn Asking Price Of Transfer Target

Football Insider reports that Ipswich Town will need to spend £5 million to sign Tom Lawrence away from Rangers this summer.

The 30-year-old, who came from Derby County to play for the Scottish giants two years ago, had a difficult debut season due to injuries. This season, he made 32 appearances across all competitions, however he was mostly used as a bench warmer.

The adaptable midfielder, despite having a year left on his contract, appears certain to depart Ibrox this summer as manager Philippe Clement tries to reassemble his team in an attempt to catch rivals Celtic.

Numerous teams have expressed interest in the former Manchester United young player. Sheffield United, who were just demoted, are reportedly interested, while Besiktas has been mentioned as one of his possible suitors. Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who was in charge of Rangers when Lawrence joined the team, is currently the manager of the Turks.

Even though he joined Rangers on a free transfer after leaving Derby, the runners-up in the Scottish Premiership want to make as much money as they can. They have therefore attached a £5 million price tag to his head.

However, Kieran McKenna is rumored to be keeping an eye on the Welshman as he attempts to bolster his team’s experience before making a Premier League comeback. With a surprise promotion from the Championship, the Tractor Boys are getting set for their first season in the top flight in 22 years.

After agreeing to a new contract for their manager, Ipswich are now entirely focused on their summer activities. Last month, there was a lot of conjecture about the 38-year-old, who was mentioned in relation to managing roles at Manchester United and Chelsea. He did, however, ink a new four-year contract that would keep him at Portman Road till 2028.

Author’s Perspective

Lawrence hasn’t played in the Premier League too often, so if Ipswich decides to pursue him, there may be some risk involved. In addition to becoming a huge hit in the Championship with Derby, the Welshman had a great season on loan with the Tractor Boys in 2016–17.

This stint makes drawing the connection simple. He was well-liked and the team’s leading scorer at the end of the season. But the Premier League is a different animal, so forget about the romanticism. Since the winger hasn’t exactly lit up the Scottish Premiership, Sheffield United might be a better choice.
