Ipswich Town: Anthony Wordsworth signs for Maldon & Tiptree

Anthony Wordsworth, a former midfielder for Ipswich Town, has signed as a player-coach with Essex non-league Maldon & Tiptree.

The 35-year-old joins the Jammers once his contract with Chelmsford City, a team in the National League South, expires.

Wordsworth joined the Clarets in the summer of last year, and while he played 25 games and scored two goals to help the team finish second in the sixth division, they lost the play-off semifinal match to Braintree Town 3-2 in overtime.

He now joins Maldon, an alliance club affiliated with Colchester United, where he will play and assist new manager Dave Huzzey.

They compete in English football’s seventh division, the Isthmian League North Division, and placed 11th in the 2023–2024 season.

He signed a £100,000 contract in January 2013 to play 20 games and score two goals during his stint at Portman Road. This was his whole tenure.

Wordsworth later had stints at Irish club Waterford, Southend United, AFC Wimbledon, Barnet, Cheshunt, and Enfield Town.
