Ipswich Town ‘in advanced talks’ to sign Leeds United, Everton and Southampton transfer target

Ben Johnson, a defender for West Ham United connected to Leeds United, is apparently in early talks with Ipswich Town.

The 24-year-old, who came through the Hammers system, will soon have his contract expire if he doesn’t make a change of heart and sign a new contract with West Ham.

He has been connected to several teams in the past few months, Leeds being one of those rumoured to be interested. Nevertheless, it seems the former England under-21 international may be out of the picture for the Whites.

The East Anglian Daily Times reports that Ipswich, a Premier League newbie, is in discussions to bring Johnson to Portman Road. A possible setback for West Ham when rumours surfaced that they had made an enhanced five-year offer is that talks are reportedly at an advanced stage.

Johnson can play centre back, full back, or in midfield; Leeds is not the only team rumoured to be interested in him.Along with teams like Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Southampton have also been linked.

Johnson, a right-back by trade, reportedly caught Leeds’ attention when the Whites were looking to strengthen their right-back lineup. Djed Spence’s loan had ended abruptly, and Luke Ayling had moved to Middlesbrough.

Connor Roberts was finally brought to Leeds on loan from Burnley, but Archie Grey, a teenage midfielder, was still starting at right back on a regular basis.
