Indeed, he made his start in the early qualifying rounds of the Champions League under the stewardship of Ronny Deila.

McGregor scored the winner on his senior Celtic debut away at KR Rekyavijk and has revealed the ultimate sacrifice his family made following it.

“The game against Reykjavik was as big a turning point you can get really,” he said (Celtic FC on YouTube).

“Your first team debut and early rounds of the Champions League. You want to make a mark and be remembered because a lot of people come through and have five or six games then it doesn’t materialise into the way they first planned it would.

“My parents stayed up until 4am to welcome me back when I first got back from the game. It was a great family moment.”

McGregor is desperate to make more Champions League memories on Wednesday against Bratislava.

His side will aim to start their European campaign properly by getting off to a flying start against the Slovakians.

It will be a tricky clash, but Brendan Rodgers’ men have been in fine fettle this campaign, winning six from six in all competitions. They will look to take such style into the continental scene.
