Andre Dozzell has revealed the key factor in Pompey winning the battle for his services.

The new Blues midfielder has told how his famous footballing father told him to opt for a move to Fratton Park.

Dozzell has started all his new side’s four Championship games so far this term, after agreeing a 12-month deal following his exit from QPR.

The 25-year-old had options this summer, including linking up with Sheffield United where he was on trial, but Fratton Park was always the destination for him.

That was clear enough as Dozzell Snr. had an influence on former Birmingham loanee’s decision last month.

And after now sampling Fratton Park on a couple of occasions since joining, Dozzell is confident he made the right call.

Dozzell said: ‘My dad said Portsmouth is a massive club.

‘We had interest from other teams this summer, but this was the one we wanted to do.

‘Obviously he would have played here a few times in his career.

‘I actually played here, but not in front of the fans because it was Covid season.

‘So I didn’t get the atmosphere but now we’re in the Championship we can hopefully kick on.

‘The atmosphere so far has been crazy, hopefully it’s like that all the time.

‘We just have to keep putting in performances so the fans will back us like that, but I’ve really enjoyed that so far.’

The legendary Ipswich Town player and former Tottenham player who proved to be a stealthy weapon in Portsmouth Championship acquisition, Andre Dozzell, has disclosed the crucial element that helped Pompey prevail in the competition for his services.

The recent addition to the Blues midfield has revealed how his well-known footballing father advised him to choose a transfer to Fratton Park.

Dozzell agreed to a 12-month contract after leaving QPR, and he has started each of his new team’s four Championship games this season.

This summer, the 25-year-old had choices, such as joining Sheffield United, where he went on trial, but Fratton Park was always his final destination.

That much was evident last month when Dozzell Sr. influenced the former Birmingham loanee’s choice.

And having already experienced a few tastes of Fratton Park since coming, Dozzell is certain he made the correct decision.

Dozzell remarked, “My father told me Portsmouth is a big club.”

Other teams expressed interest in us this summer, but we were only interested in doing this one.

He would have undoubtedly made a few appearances here over his career.

“It was Covid season, so I didn’t play here in front of the crowd,” the player said.

I didn’t understand the vibe, but at least we’re in the Championship, so maybe we can start winning now.

“The atmosphere has been incredible thus far; hopefully, it will continue to be that way.”

“I’ve really enjoyed that so far, but we just need to keep putting in performances so the fans will support us like that.”
