Former Chelsea boss edging closer to become Everton manager

Everton’s managerial search appears to be nearing its conclusion, with a former Chelsea boss reportedly set to take the reins at Goodison Park. The Toffees, who parted ways with Sean Dyche after a disappointing start to the 2024/25 season, have been in talks with several high-profile candidates, but sources indicate they are now focused on appointing an experienced coach who has previously managed Chelsea.

The identity of the manager remains under wraps, but speculation is rife that either Frank Lampard or Mauricio Pochettino could be in line for the role. Lampard, of course, previously managed Everton between January 2022 and January 2023, guiding them through a relegation battle before being dismissed. A return would raise eyebrows, though Lampard’s strong ties to the club’s hierarchy could work in his favor.

On the other hand, Mauricio Pochettino, who left Chelsea earlier this year, brings a wealth of experience from his time at Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint-Germain, alongside his Stamford Bridge stint. Pochettino’s tactical acumen and proven ability to develop young talent could align well with Everton’s long-term vision. His potential appointment would represent a significant statement of intent by Everton’s ownership, as they seek to stabilize the club and rebuild its reputation.

Everton’s struggles in the Premier League have been well-documented, with financial issues, points deductions, and inconsistency plaguing the club in recent seasons. Supporters are eager for a fresh start and hope the new manager can bring both stability and an attractive style of play. The former Chelsea manager, whoever he may be, will face the immediate challenge of lifting the team out of the lower half of the table while managing expectations amidst ongoing off-field concerns.

With an official announcement expected in the coming days, all eyes are on Everton’s boardroom. The appointment of a high-profile manager with top-level experience could rejuvenate the squad and energize the fanbase. As the Toffees look to turn their fortunes around, the incoming manager will undoubtedly be under intense scrutiny to deliver results quickly and bring a sense of optimism back to the blue half of Merseyside.
