Philippe Clement, the manager of Rangers, is at the core of the unrest at the top at Ibrox.
Although it is not the Belgian coach’s responsibility to oversee the internal operations at Ibrox, Clement frequently has to respond to enquiries unrelated to football because of the growing unpredictability in the background.
On the pitch, Philippe Clement has led a significant squad makeover and is pleading with the Rangers to back his youthful team through a challenging early season.
However, the Rangers manager has made hints that someone else who is more qualified might be able to respond to enquiries about the off-field turmoil that the team is currently experiencing in the coming days.
Clement hints at imminent Rangers board announcement
This season, you can’t help but feel sorry for Philippe Clement as Rangers manager.
The Belgian first had to respond angrily to enquiries about the condition of the team and the club’s finances, with Clement having to pay the price for years of poor administration while he was out of the picture.
The Rangers manager then had to deal with the chaos that was the reconstruction of the Copland Road stand, which was beset by delays and resulted in the team having to play vital Champions League qualifiers at Hampden.
In addition to all of that, Clement has been the person to whom journalists have directed enquiries about the Ibrox hierarchy, which is still in place despite a period of instability.
James Bisgrove, the CEO, first abandoned ship and fled to Saudi Arabia. Later, John Bennett, the chairman, was regretfully asked to resign for health concerns.
When queried again about the club’s hierarchy, Clement hinted that information about it might be released this week. The stress of living at Ibrox is taking a toll.
Following the 1-0 victory over Dundee United, Clement told the media, “I think up until now I’ve been the only one talking outside.” Thus, it doesn’t alter all that much.
“Perhaps it will move next week. We’ll see.
“I’m not the one who brings money into the club or brings in the cash.”
“It is my responsibility to maximise the performance of the players currently on the team, to find new players in collaboration with the recruitment team, and to make the best financial decisions possible.”
“It is my responsibility, and I shall carry on in that manner.
However, I also had numerous conversations in the past with John and James over strategic matters for the club’s future and to improve everything within the club—not just Scottish football, but everything in general. Thus, I believe that when new people take over, it will continue.
Rangers need to assist Philippe Clement.
Rangers, a team that has seen frequent transition over the past several seasons, is in desperate need of stability.
There has been instability at the top of the marble staircase pretty much since Dave King departed the building. The former chairman of the Rangers has subsequently put his name in the hat to return.
After Steven Gerrard departed the Ibrox dugout, the team appointed and fired two managers before choosing Philippe Clement to lead the team’s rebuilding process.
John Gilligan, an investor and stakeholder, has taken Bennett’s place. Douglas Park, Stewart Robertson, and Ross Wilson are no longer with the company.
Rangers supporters want to see a well-defined structure and a well-defined plan for getting back to the top of the league, and right now, Philippe Clement deserves praise for keeping things together on the pitch.
Let’s hope Rangers establish a more transparent structure this week and that the Belgian’s premonition comes true, allowing Clement to concentrate on leading his team to victory on the pitch.
