EXCLUSIVE NEWS: David Martindale has explained why he used to support Celtic in the Scottish Premiership

Celtic supporters are accustomed to seeing a number of well-known figures and football insiders declare their admiration for the team.

However, they were not prepared to learn that Livingston’s manager, David Martindale, had once cheered for the team during his six-year tenure in the Scottish Premiership.

Naturally, there’s a catch to that statement. When Martindale was playing for Livingston in Scotland’s premier league, he devoted most of his efforts to fighting relegation.

However, the Livi Lions coach reveals in the Championship why it’s “really refreshing” to not have to support the Bhoys this season.

David Martindale got “invested” in the Celtic cause.

With two games remaining, Livingston is now four points behind Scott Brown’s Ayr United in the Scottish Championship, third place.

Martindale, who is aiming to return to Scotland’s top level, acknowledges that it feels wonderful not to have to worry about Celtic’s performance this year.

Martindale stated, “I’m not really bothered by what happens at Falkirk or Ayr, or any other club,” to the West Lothian Courier [print edition, page 35]. My only priorities are our club and winning the upcoming game.

“It’s a really refreshing way for me to spend the rest of the season, having watched every Premiership fixture for six years.”I became into a Rangers or Celtic supporter every Saturday or Sunday since they were always playing St Johnstone or St Mirren or something.

But leaving that behind, where my attention is on my own team rather than looking at other people’s performance, is refreshing.

“You would have become engrossed in watching St Johnstone, St. Mirren, or Motherwell play Celtic on Sunday if we had played on Saturday.

David Martindale has explained why he used to support Celtic in the Scottish Premiership

“I was a Celtic, Rangers, and Livingston supporter for 90% of the Premiership season, but now that I’m at Livingston, I’m just really focused on us and what we do.”

Celtic will want for an SPFL victory to bolster their confidence following their Champions League exit.

Celtic now hopes to correct a mistake they made in the Champions League this coming weekend and return to winning ways against Ross County in their subsequent game.

Brendan Rodgers’ team, who has not lost at home, will be hurting and hoping to silence their detractors with a decisive victory in Dingwall.

After Sunday’s match, there will be an international break, so Rodgers will be looking for a confidence-boosting performance against The Staggies, who are now ranked seventh in the Scottish Premiership standings.
